ENERGY STAR® Homes
Program Description
When you build or buy an ENERGY STAR® Home, you're getting a better home for your money: one that's 15% more energy efficient than a home built to the Texas building code. Better energy efficiency means greater home comfort and reduced energy costs for you, the homeowner.
- Look for the Label -- When shopping for a home, look for the ENERGY STAR® label on the circuit breaker box.
- Find an ENERGY STAR® Builder -- If you're building a home, go to our Web site, TexasEnergyStarHome.info, to find a complete listing of participating ENERGY STAR® builders and program details. To help encourage more construction of ENERGY STAR® homes, we offer an incentive program to the participating homebuilders in the Oncor service area.
Benefits of an ENERGY STAR® Home
ENERGY STAR® homes offer more than just savings on utility bills. Here are some of the additional benefits you'll enjoy by owning an ENERGY STAR® home:
- Better Construction – With a focus on keeping the exterior and interior tightly sealed, you can be assured that your ENERGY STAR® labeled home has been built carefully and with attention to detail.
- Improved Comfort and Reduced Noise – Tighter construction and improved insulation help keep out excess heat, cold, and noise while maintaining a consistent and comfortable temperature from room to room.
- Low Maintenance – ENERGY STAR® labeled homes feature high-quality, longer-lasting heating and cooling equipment and energy-efficient windows which reduce fading of furniture and finishes.
- Healthier Indoor Air – Tighter construction combined with increased filtered air flow keeps dust, pollen, and mold out so you can breathe easier.
- Higher Resale Value – Studies show that energy-efficient homes earn a higher resale price than standard homes.
- Verified Performance – A home must pass a rigorous inspection by an independent third party home energy rater before it can be certified as an ENERGY STAR® labeled home.
- Preferred Financing – Energy efficiency mortgages allow you to apply the monthly energy savings of your ENERGY STAR® labeled home to qualify for more home at your current income level. For a list of financial partners, visit the ENERGY STAR® Web site.
- Good for the Environment – Almost 20% of air pollution results from energy used in homes. An ENERGY STAR® labeled home uses significantly less energy than standard homes, so while you're saving money, you're helping keep our air clean.
